On the pages of a magazine

SAMSUNG CSCIts lovely how the sunshine seems to wake you up from the long slumber of the dark winter. It feels like you can do so much more with the light around. It is different to take photos with natural light than to try to figure out how to make it work with artificial means.

I wanted to change the outlook of the blog and now that it is done I see I am in dire need of new pictures. Both for Tsukifly purposes but also for the fun of it. So I made it my (yet) another project to take some new picture material.

Above you see Tsukifly clothes on Lunetta (Souldoll Aehael) in magazine style. This is why one of the Etsy sections is called Mix & Match because generally all the pieces go rather well together. So this is one example of that. In the picture there are four Tsukifly pieces pictured: Little Miss Polka dot dress, A pair of white legwarmers, An MSD Duffle coat and knitted wool hat. As for the duffle coat I am still finishing info, pictures and other details. A glimpse of that nicely with other items.

I was also pleased to receive a review and feedback regarding Tsukifly items. Thank you ~

On-going projects

If I thought there were many on-going / unfinished projects around before, now there is even more. And if we count in the photoshoot plans etc. not sewing related but otherwise dolly related projects we have even more outstanding number. Challenges for me but nothing I cannot cope with in due course. One by one whistling as you go by.

As I was travelling around last week I couldn’t get the pictures of the new headdress up on Etsy or here. However, here it is. With somewhat similar design as those odd cat headdresses (still coming – teaser on Instagram) and those bunny headdresses already on Etsy. I am yet to decide is this animal or just fluffy or what. Cute in any case and on Etsy. Vanamo (Volks Kurumi) as my model. Her head is one of those “famous” Volks heads, 9-10inch, so the headdress will also go nicely for Pullips and Blythes. Colors used: white (tassels), creamy (headdress), ribbons (black).

Pullip related commission set and a white bunny hat

I finished a commission outfit for Pullip. This nurse outfit + hat were made according to a reference with with certain alterations due to size, fabric and my own visions. I am glad to see it turned out well although I had certain worries as to the sturdiness of the fabric.SAM_4672

Another commission was a soft white bunny hat with a removable bow tie. The hat has one snap fastener to allow it to be fastened under doll’s chin. The red bow tie is removable with a small safety pin to secure it.

Unrelated to dolls is my own project to make a bed cover for my own bed. I wanted something calm and white so I ended up going fabric shopping to see my options. I concluded it would cost around the same if not less to make it myself versus to buy one. So the benefits with uniqueness and the fun of making it/selecting the fabrics sealed my choice. I went for the fabrics – the core of the cover (my fabric choices on Instagram) and the other fabric. Possibly a third quilt fabric for the other side to make it more thick. Now I need to attach the other fabric on the hem of the other, to line the whole thing around. The estimated project size is around 150cm x 240cm.

At the same time two very fluffy animal hats (Lillycat 8-9inch size) and a commission white bunny hat are waiting for inside linings.

With regard to some props. For one, I finally managed to get my doll sized couch around. Additionally I found some other props which I will have to see if they are for my use or if I should offer them for sale as some of the projects I originally got them for aren’t around or relevant anymore. I shall see to that over the coming weekend.

And please check Instagram for occasional project related pictures 🙂

Another sewing weekend

It seems I pile up the inspiration and the implementation of the ideas for these weekends. During the week you either don’t have the energy or you don’t have the time. More than once I wonder how great it would be if there were more hours in a day…

I have been doing quite a many projects simultaneously and its satisfying to see them coming together one by one. Of course, while they are in progress my working table looks pretty much like it will drown in disarray.

Pullip Dress set commission – In Progress

This is what I have been working on for the most part. A Pullip dress set commission. The set will consist of a hat and a dress with certain tiny details. While I have maintained some of the artistic freedom in putting it all together it resembles the design for which it is based on. I have also made another kind of closure solution for the whole dress. I am a fan of the hat too. Perhaps I shall try something colourful in similar design in BJD size later on? Pictures will follow at later stage ~

Pillow covers for anyone?

An idea of making decorative pillow covers available on Etsy has crossed my mind previously on few occasions. I have had this rather a good sized pillow cover completed for a while already. Now I finally got around to finish it. I probably went through several closing possibilities from simple ribbons to huge decorative buttons etc. A plain zipper was one too. Which option won? I will keep you in suspense for a while longer.

Face-up time

In winter time I usually don’t make too many face-ups because of the light and weather difficulties in this Northern country. However, some occasional exceptions may occur and this appears to be one of those.

When you have the inspiration you should make the most of it. So the Fairyland MNF 2014 Halloween head I have had rolling around my closet for a good while now got a face-up. Theme was wintary with snowflakes and tiny decorative details over her other eye. There are also some black spirals on the other side of her head but I realized this picture does not show them… Fortunately there are other shots to complement. As nobody seemed to be willing to adopt the little one with her blank face I hope she will have better chances now. Take a look at Den of Angels.

Tsukifly’s Midsummer air

It is almost midsummer in Finland. The day when sun does not set and bonfires are lit all across the country for the celebration of summer solstice. Extra excited as I haven’t been around for a while to see those but this year I plan to explore around. (Check more about Finnish midsummer).

It would appear my activity with my blog posts has increased somewhat. Having a bit of extra time helps. Summer holiday later might work against this fact as the access to internet may be hindered – cottage visits etc. to be expected.

New Arrival

That phrase bring to my mind the song scene from Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride. If you have seen the movie you know why. Not perhaps in the same way a new arrival but my girl crew has got a new addition. She is Centaur version Aehael from Souldoll. One which managed to convince me through the screen. I wasn’t entirely prepared to get anything new but sometimes you are not quite successful in fighting back…

Her name is Lunetta.il_fullxfull.1042213227_3ltl

A girl born out of an unusual union of a faun and a unicorn. Cast aside by her faun community for being too different, her appearance taken after her father, the unicorn. Considered as scary and odd according to some of the community members. Whispering to trees and  weaving braids of flowers she bears her loneliness in her own way. Until an adventurous elf girl appears on a meadow where she sings.

The beginning of her story may sound sad but I assure you, things start to improve after a certain individual appears. Lunetta’s only friend until that moment has been a magical deer Elafi. Being a young one herself, Elafi does not always have the brightest of ideas to go around to which Lunetta can have a hearty laugh once in a while.

Still thinking over her outfit. For now it is a combination of many pieces I have had in my closet. Basically everything that is not black i.e. Tori’s clothing is on her for the time being. Rather a functional outcome I would say. During the weekend I had a productive period to make few complete dress sets for Etsy. The first one of those is the set she models above Alice within Alice -set with a pink Alice patterned dress and 3 additional pieces. The outcome is rather a Cinderella housemaid, but she looks cute.

It is a challenge to find her a wig that is of right size. She has smaller than average MSD head which means she is more like a Unoa/MNF than MSD. Thus she also wears YoSD/Tiny sized wigs which I do not have too many extras. We shall see. Or then she will end of having a collection of everything I have around.

The other complete dress set is filled with lace, it is a two-piece set, made with a ballerina in mind. I used quite many hours for details. More about it in my next monthly post including pictures and an Etsy link.

2nd Tsukifly Pullip custom

Tsukifly Custom Pullip Éclair

Having already mentioned about the possibility of a new custom may I present Éclair. She is a Mocha skin Pullip with a complete outfit with pinkish theme. Her outfit consists of a knee-length one-piece dress with details and a pair of cute pink shoes with bunny ears. She will also come with a contrasting long light-blue wig and mystery headpiece to complement the dress (not pictured). Find her from Tsukifly Etsy Shop!

Éclair was my first experience with a Mocha skin Pullip and I must say I really like the tone of her skin. It was fun to make her a face-up after a long pause. I still have certain painting / face-upping things missing. The search continues.

The 3rd Tsukifly Custom will be something around the keywords: white and bunny. A wig, eyes and certain other parts of her outfit are already around. Now should consider her face-up a bit.

Overall many projects have been completed this month. More or less. Next month may be less active due to the reasons already mentioned above. In any case a monthly update will be sure the be there.
