Another sewing weekend

It seems I pile up the inspiration and the implementation of the ideas for these weekends. During the week you either don’t have the energy or you don’t have the time. More than once I wonder how great it would be if there were more hours in a day…

I have been doing quite a many projects simultaneously and its satisfying to see them coming together one by one. Of course, while they are in progress my working table looks pretty much like it will drown in disarray.

Pullip Dress set commission – In Progress

This is what I have been working on for the most part. A Pullip dress set commission. The set will consist of a hat and a dress with certain tiny details. While I have maintained some of the artistic freedom in putting it all together it resembles the design for which it is based on. I have also made another kind of closure solution for the whole dress. I am a fan of the hat too. Perhaps I shall try something colourful in similar design in BJD size later on? Pictures will follow at later stage ~

Pillow covers for anyone?

An idea of making decorative pillow covers available on Etsy has crossed my mind previously on few occasions. I have had this rather a good sized pillow cover completed for a while already. Now I finally got around to finish it. I probably went through several closing possibilities from simple ribbons to huge decorative buttons etc. A plain zipper was one too. Which option won? I will keep you in suspense for a while longer.

Face-up time

In winter time I usually don’t make too many face-ups because of the light and weather difficulties in this Northern country. However, some occasional exceptions may occur and this appears to be one of those.

When you have the inspiration you should make the most of it. So the Fairyland MNF 2014 Halloween head I have had rolling around my closet for a good while now got a face-up. Theme was wintary with snowflakes and tiny decorative details over her other eye. There are also some black spirals on the other side of her head but I realized this picture does not show them… Fortunately there are other shots to complement. As nobody seemed to be willing to adopt the little one with her blank face I hope she will have better chances now. Take a look at Den of Angels.

Instagram & Volks Dollfie Dreams

Instagram my dear ladies and gentlemen!

More updates for the new year! Tsukifly has an instagram account. I welcome everyone to follow as I intend to drop teasers of the new/on-going projects through that channel. One such teaser is already in, showing off the other new creation for the next Etsy update. I felt it was time to get around intagram also because I have been told for quite some time I should get one… So there you are ^^

Volks Dollfie Dreams

Another topic to discuss are Volks Dollfie Dreams. It has been 12 years since I first found these lovely dolls made of vinyl. So light compared to resin and their cute anime looks guarantee their appeal. They also hold their poses well, much better than the strings of the regular BJDs. Various possibilities to create a suitable body & head combination in size and style generally give you rather free playground.

Speaking of DDs I consider I have some experience as I started my BJD hobby with a DD. In 2005 my DD was the first one in Finland (to my knowledge). She was a Volks DD Sirius product model (white ver.) An old picture of how she turned out to look over the years. However, sad to say I later sold across the world for she didn’t inspire me anymore as she used to. I must also say I wasn’t such a big fan of the base body II she used to have.

relaxing_by_tsukie_san

When I think back the possibilities with DDs there were not that many. Only normal skin color existed, limited supply of parts and optional heads. Now we have white, semi-white and normal. Four bust types, two torso types, four sizes: DD dynamite (DDdy), Dollfie Dream Sister (DDS), DD (original base bodies such as II and III) and Mini Dollfie Dream (MDD). Then these different torso types, the newest probably being the one-piece torso. More optional heads, more hands (I should order some!)

After having sold my first DD doll, I didn’t have one for a year or two. At some point I started to look back at them for the lightness and their overall looks still had appeal over me. A lot of new models had come around as well. I don’t quite remember how I came across Saber and there are many versions of her but the one with green eyes! Well, I was sold. Once again. The problem was how to find the right version and how to get her head 30521295210_61a5834920_bas I didn’t want the body of the original release.

Strangely enough it didn’t take all that long until a head of the right version appeared around DoA. Of course I had to jump on the opportunity! I wanted a little shorter DDS body for her so I got all the relevant pieces through DoA as well. Back in 2014 I did an assembling guide of DDS body as I got the parts of the DDS body. The Saber Extra head came around a month or so later. My second DD girl was home.

My Saber’s name is Rein. However, any character plans I may have had  for her didn’t seem quite right. I was already at the brink of selling her on more than one occasion. It seemed her style started to came around at the last minute as I got a milky white ringlet wig that is so far certainly my favorite on her. Now she has a rough sketch of a story/character linked to few other characters. I should get around writing it down. Also I now have an idea of some clothes I would like to try for her. Great timing for inspiration as I intent to make use of some of the fabrics I have stored in my boxes.

A long standing dream – for such time Volks will hopefully again re-release her (Sasara Kusugawa) with some other body than DDdy or I happen to come across some dazzling opportunity to get her otherwise. The prices are ludicrous at present…

img_sasara_wg03

Another thing I may consider at some point, largely because of the size, is an MDD. Even more compact size than DDS I would like to have one as a model. No character ideas for such a thing though. Smaller sizes are not that easy for me. I have had plenty of tinies and MSD sized dolls but usually I end up selling them after trying a while to bond with them. So far only three in smaller sizes have remained. Two MSDs and a tiny. SD or the size ~ 58cm seems to be my favorite.

And! A new light background for the blog as well. A minor change as I still like the overall layout of the blog. Although I noticed I should update the header photo as well. Some of the photos are rather old and it is also missing Lunetta altogether…

Etsy’s January and dolly plans

Second update for the month. I feel like clapping my hands a bit. For both the joy of finishing these items as well as for the fact of having a second update for the month.

This is filled with photos of the new updates for Tsukifly’s Etsy shop. Some of the items were suppose to be there already for the previous month but due to health issues I was unable to finish any of the plans. Better late than never, right? So while I am home for few days I felt it was sufficient time to finish the projects.

My dear friend Irene greatly contributed to my focusing on Blythe size for the time being. It seems. Thank you so much dear once again~ ! So it did have a desired effect, right? Besides the Blythe socks ISAMSUNG CSC SAMSUNG CSCalready mentioned earlier I was able to finish the dress set properly with a tiny off-white tulle skirt to go with it. Easy to put on a doll with my new faves: hook & eye closure at the back. Ribbon details on both sides of the waist area. Now found on Etsy.

Personally it seems I am a fan of tulle skirts for my girls. Off-white is quite nice on Mella even if she has nothing else on her. That is the off-white tulle skirt under the red dress set. Appears SAMSUNG CSCto look like a normal white in the picture though. Natural light is rather minimal in Finland for this winter time. I might be inclined to offer some tulle skirts separately for Blythe/Pullip size in the future.

Looking something like this. But they shall come later when I get there. If someone would like one in a specific size please inquire. In general these have 4 layers of soft tulle. As there are some designs from before I may consider a first pre-order item out of these. I have a feeling they would answer the demand better that way. And I am kinda out of the space to keep all the pre-made items, haha.

Other Etsy highlights for the month are a Dust of Dolls polka dot dress set with a similar off-white tulle skirt to go with the white/colorful polka dot one-piece dress. A snap fastener at the back and flower themed lace as a detail. Bubbla (my little model did give me some hard time – refusing to stand as my model u_u). Last pair of Tsukifly patterned stockings for Etsy. Second one in MSD size, the other longer stocking pair travelled within Europe already. These are short socks with ribbon details. And I like how the socks look with Lunetta’s shoes. I feel kinda tempted to keep them for her too…

Speaking of keeping the things I sew… I have a feeling I should sew things to keep for my girls as well. Etsy has got the majority of the things I have made during Autumn and now so my girls haven’t got any of the things they might need. Except for perhaps the other ofSAMSUNG CSC the two finished kimono projects as I resolved to keep the other for Freya for the time being (she has no other full outfit at the moment either…) To add under the kimono I wanted to finish a lace top for her, similar to those in Etsy.
The top is in off-white to match with her cute panties I bought from Taipei’s doll fair already two years ago. At the time I didn’t have a clue for who they would be for. Now I am very pleased with the combo. A new wig as well. Lovely color -Usagihime’s if I don’t remember entire wrongly.

Also Lunetta got a new cute wig of which I will not add a picture just yet. She is my next target, still without a proper “own” outfit. I haven’t got a clue what kind of style I would like for her except for the shoes perhaps. A dress, short and tulle/lace details are in my mind. Have to sketch a bit. Even the color I would like for her is a mystery still.

I will get to consider something for her within the limits of my already too full fabric box. I need to use more of the ones I have instead of losing myself in fabric stores all over again…

Darker fabrics appear to make quite a nice contrast with Lunetta’s fair white skin. White or pink is no no, too light and does not quite suit her character either. I have a feeling this will require some time.

November and MSD dresses

Happy Halloween! Did you have a scary night? Trick or Treat?

As the cold nights of November sneak in Finland has turned clocks backwards one hour to welcome the winter time. This week we were promised snow for the whole country(!) True to that word looking outside just now reveals a slight snowstorm outside my windows.

I have been feeling inspired lately but it would be wonderful to have more time for sewing/customs – perhaps an extra time reserve for just sewing, designing etc. related to Tsukifly, commissions and customs? Now I have to deal with what little I have over the weekend while I would have tons of designs and plans I would like to work on.

The previous blog post was quite scarce  what comes to pictures (although I added some afterwards) so in this post you will see more pictures. Some of you may remember my theme for the MSD size a month or so back. If so, you may have been wondering where are those promised MSD pieces. Well. I mentioned something unexpected came up but now I have completed few dresses in this promised MSD size. That means they fit for most MSDs such as Luts, Soom, Dollmore and Volks. Teasers here and dress sets on Etsy.

Closer description of MSD dresses

First dress set has been made with Luts Kid Delf Romantic bust as a model so that it can fit for both small chest and large bust MSD girls. The design is somewhat similar to what has been seen a few years back at Dolliverse. A design I really like while it is also quite SAMSUNG CSCfunctional (if I may say so!). Signature Tsukifly bunny headdress will come along with this lovely pink themed dress with eye-catching details (note black/white striped ribbons in front of the dress.) Mostly hand-sewn because of its various details. Lined from the inside. Ribbons to tighten the dress on the back side, otherwise left open so it will fit nicely on an extra petticoat for extra puffy look.

Second dress has an upper part made of cute yellow/violet polka dot fabric with lace and ribbon details. The skirt part has two layers made of airy light pink fabric as well as another polka dot fabric with reverse color combination. A separate tulle petticoat or a cute flower headband may complement the set nicely. This set will fit for Slim MSD/Unoa and MNF size.

About the new Tsukifly Pullip custom – Papillon de nuit

The themes of the newest Tsukifly Custom Pullip are butterflies and moths. She is fair skin color with dark face-up and other details as well as dark/brown colored Tsukifly dress set. Quite a contrast to those three sets seen previously. Perhaps some inspiration had to do with the Halloween?

What might have delayed her completion time is the funny thing with my carpet. It appears to have swallowed some of the small pieces I had meant for the set. A fluffy Bermuda triangle like my dear friend described? A pair of my rings having surfaced from this triangle just a while ago I have hope those small pieces will soon be re-discovered.

No, really. It was just a matter of getting everything done. Now I am pleased to inform that the complete set is available in Etsy. Personally her dark look and striking eyes are among my favorites from the Pullip customs I have made so far. I hope you will like her! Please meet Papillon de nuit, fourth OOAK Tsukifly custom pullip in fair skin.

Kimono set for Etsy – in progress

Another kimono set almost complete with light lining is finally properly in progress. This is in Lillycat Cerisedolls size. The fabric is lovely orange/red color and the combination makes me want to keep it. However, I made a promise to myself to keep only one of the two. Other set will be available through Etsy. My aim is to complete it perhaps during the next weekend. Then I need to make the decision on which one to keep for Freya. A hard one.

SAMSUNG CSC A visiting star: Nomu [Leekeworld Kiko]
Idaheika‘s Nomu has been around for few commissions.

One cute tanuki she is and here is the commissioned Miko outfit. Also I am grateful for Idaheika to have faith in my sewing work as well as my visions when it comes to the execution of the commissions. Thank you! One complete set was seen already in one  of my previous posts. Now the second one has been completed. Knee-length dress set (a miko-outfit) with a white kimono jacket and a pleated red skirt. Few snap fasteners for the backside. All and all I am very happy how it turned out. Now it is only missing a cute ribbon thing from the front of the dress – perhaps of white lace?

The dress itself would need a moment of gentle ironing to settle down the seams of the kimono and skirt. Still to be completed.

Other dolly related news:

Recently I had a pleasure to do few trades with fellow doll hobbyists and I got some lovely items for my girls. Usually when I say something is for someone in particular that will not be the case. My girls seem to share (read: steal) each other’s things without further regrets SAMSUNG CSC(haha). Anyway,  two things seem to have been settled. Tori got a jacket – finally, she has waited for something suitable for too many years and Vanamo got a pair of lovely eyes, they even have small seashells in them!

Next I am on a quest to find some shoes for Freya and Lunetta. For some reasons their feet are of tricky size. It seems Lunetta might actually get a pair of brownish shoes to start with. She can’t go out without proper shoes! Nor can Freya for the time being. Especially if the snow will stay around.

I shall reappear with new projects once I have properly documented and finished the current ones. Stay tuned!

Arrival of autumn

I feel I haven’t been out enough. I am looking to remedy the situation in the coming few weeks as the splendor of colors is raging outside. What a lovely autumn weather! Chilly and sunny with dry leaves in red, yellow and orange colors. Besides spring, autumn is my other favorite season.29679804551_3f66dc2373_z

Regarding the kimono projects. I have cut fabrics for two long kimonos but so far I have managed to finish only one. The other one is coming together at a later stage. I still need to select a lining fabric for it. The other one would be in need of some ironing to settle the seams properly. Otherwise I am pretty happy with the first outcome. It suits Freya well.

For the chilly autumn weather and for the coming winter I found a yarn of fluffy grey thread from which I have knitted three wool hats for Etsy. Completely handmade. Three hats in three different sizes. In tiny/MSD, Lillycat/SD and Pullip/Leeke Art-doll. Finishing touches are with small bells and different ribbons and tassels. A great piece to complement any coat in a chilly weather. Take a closer look at Etsy and below.

With regard to many of my near-future plans I need to conclude that several of them have been put on hold because of other issues. However, I haven’t been completely idle either. Newest acquisition for Tsukifly is a Volks mannequin to display some of the SD outfits and jewellery for Etsy. A great thing for the complete outfit sets.

Happy to tell that Huurre has been dispatched towards her new home. Now I may start preparations for another complete custom Pullip set. Theme will be a butterfly. Quite a few things will need to be tested before there will be any pictures coming. About the schedule I may say that by the end of the month there should be teasers up. Her skintone will be fair, like Huurre was. Later there are plans for more Mocha skinned customs as well.

I aim to complete some commissions as well. So there might be picture post coming up in few weeks to complement this one picture info post. Please keep checking for that.

Inspirational winds

May has probably been my most active month yet (!)

I have felt inspired as the weather has been amazing and everything has turned green and lively again. Spring is my favourite season, but transition to summer is wonderful as well. So I am enjoying my time fully.

The layout of the blog has changed as I wanted to change colors/pictures for it. An update on a header picture to reflect more of the blog’s all inclusive set of topics (everything doll related rather than only sewing/Tsukifly related news).

Tsukifly design plans

Ide’s Nomu (Leekeworld Kiko) got out of the box as I wanted to test an outfit design for her. She got a white lace top under her red vest and a cute red skirt with little hearts along with lace and ribbon details. A proper outfit for summer~ Pictures of the completed outfits available shortly~!

Few commissions are waiting for my attention and I would also like to try a summer dress for Freya at some point. When the time permits.

SAMSUNG CSC

I had nearly concluded I shall give up with my Volks Dollfie Dream Saber as I could not quite come up a style/character for her. However, after getting a curly DH wig (which was planned for something else entirely) I ended up trying it out for her and bang. She looks so cute I cannot help but give her another chance to become part of my crew ;o; Rein ~

Tsukifly clothing rack

Tsukifly display.

In my previous post I briefly displayed these lovely hangers I got. They go well together with my white rack and it so happens that all my racks are white… Other hangers I have are silver with a wider span, but I might do some adjustments on them later on.

A doll hideaway.

Where do you keep your dolls? Do you store them in their boxes or perhaps display all of them on a drawer or on some other piece of furniture?

I do all of those (confused?) simply because I prefer not to have all of them visibly on display all the time. Few are enough at any one time. Previously all the others (those not on display) were stored in their boxes but now I found out that I have a closet space where I can have them neatly on their stands without need to pack them up entirely. I am pretty happy about my discovery as you may imagine ~ Vanamo and Aya are there, exploring the new (darkish) space to keep them safe from bright sunlight. Rein is sitting on my writing desk and Freya has found her place on top of a pile of black hat boxes… Mina is in another closet with Ide‘s Bubbla, apparently exploring laces, papers and other stuff. Even those in the closet are now easily at hand when I wish to see them.

Tsukifly Etsy Shop

New things have been popping up in Etsy. First a candyish pink skirt set then two fluffy animal hats displayed by Rein and finally an MSD/MNF/Unoa sized cocktail dress for the summer (also shown above). The latest addition in the list is certainly my favorite.

What is coming up in June? I have plans to complete few dress sets, but the exact timing is still open. Additionally a new Pullip custom will be looking for a home within few weeks.

Pullips

Where should I start? Previously I was thinking to maybe do few more customs at some point. Suddenly I find I have a pile of different plans, ideas etc. for Pullip customs that I would like to do. Some I would like to complete as fast as possible but due to time restraints it appears that one can be completed at a time. What I can reveal is that there will be a custom Pullip in Mocha color coming soon. Keywords for her are pink & bunny. Thus keep an eye on the Etsy shop! ^^
