Freya’s spring style & pillows

Do you know the saying that shoemaker’s own children don’t have any shoes? At least in Finland we have such a saying. In this case I am not a shoemaker but perhaps we could stretch the saying: seamstress’ girls don’t have any clothes. So very true around here.

Because, with the saying or not, the situation is pretty severe with my crew of girls. Even if I consider myself a seamstress I seem to avoid making clothes for my girls. With that concluded I decided to try to make something with a serious intent for Freya for the coming spring time, using one of the previously completed corset tops as a basis for the dress. And I must say I am pretty happy with Freya’s new pastel mint style.

A hint of yellow and green is hidden in the skirt. Tiny silk flowers. Previously completed flower headband adds in some color to the whole. I cannot seem to be able to decide which hair style is better…

One of a kind pillow covers on Etsy

I mentioned these in my previous posts. Finally completed, in two different sizes and designs, you can find these unique decorative elements from Etsy. Japanese design comes in size 50 x 50cm, pretty common size for decorative pillows. Pillow case has four wooden buttons on its back-side. Rectangular pillow comes in size 50cm x 24 cm, a bit of an odd size. It closes from the other end with four pattern buttons. The fabric in itself is Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service Jiji cat -themed. Both are great decorative elements for anyone who loves Japanese style or the said movie. Have a further look at Etsy.

On-going projects

If I thought there were many on-going / unfinished projects around before, now there is even more. And if we count in the photoshoot plans etc. not sewing related but otherwise dolly related projects we have even more outstanding number. Challenges for me but nothing I cannot cope with in due course. One by one whistling as you go by.

As I was travelling around last week I couldn’t get the pictures of the new headdress up on Etsy or here. However, here it is. With somewhat similar design as those odd cat headdresses (still coming – teaser on Instagram) and those bunny headdresses already on Etsy. I am yet to decide is this animal or just fluffy or what. Cute in any case and on Etsy. Vanamo (Volks Kurumi) as my model. Her head is one of those “famous” Volks heads, 9-10inch, so the headdress will also go nicely for Pullips and Blythes. Colors used: white (tassels), creamy (headdress), ribbons (black).

Pullip related commission set and a white bunny hat

I finished a commission outfit for Pullip. This nurse outfit + hat were made according to a reference with with certain alterations due to size, fabric and my own visions. I am glad to see it turned out well although I had certain worries as to the sturdiness of the fabric.SAM_4672

Another commission was a soft white bunny hat with a removable bow tie. The hat has one snap fastener to allow it to be fastened under doll’s chin. The red bow tie is removable with a small safety pin to secure it.

Unrelated to dolls is my own project to make a bed cover for my own bed. I wanted something calm and white so I ended up going fabric shopping to see my options. I concluded it would cost around the same if not less to make it myself versus to buy one. So the benefits with uniqueness and the fun of making it/selecting the fabrics sealed my choice. I went for the fabrics – the core of the cover (my fabric choices on Instagram) and the other fabric. Possibly a third quilt fabric for the other side to make it more thick. Now I need to attach the other fabric on the hem of the other, to line the whole thing around. The estimated project size is around 150cm x 240cm.

At the same time two very fluffy animal hats (Lillycat 8-9inch size) and a commission white bunny hat are waiting for inside linings.

With regard to some props. For one, I finally managed to get my doll sized couch around. Additionally I found some other props which I will have to see if they are for my use or if I should offer them for sale as some of the projects I originally got them for aren’t around or relevant anymore. I shall see to that over the coming weekend.

And please check Instagram for occasional project related pictures 🙂

Another sewing weekend

It seems I pile up the inspiration and the implementation of the ideas for these weekends. During the week you either don’t have the energy or you don’t have the time. More than once I wonder how great it would be if there were more hours in a day…

I have been doing quite a many projects simultaneously and its satisfying to see them coming together one by one. Of course, while they are in progress my working table looks pretty much like it will drown in disarray.

Pullip Dress set commission – In Progress

This is what I have been working on for the most part. A Pullip dress set commission. The set will consist of a hat and a dress with certain tiny details. While I have maintained some of the artistic freedom in putting it all together it resembles the design for which it is based on. I have also made another kind of closure solution for the whole dress. I am a fan of the hat too. Perhaps I shall try something colourful in similar design in BJD size later on? Pictures will follow at later stage ~

Pillow covers for anyone?

An idea of making decorative pillow covers available on Etsy has crossed my mind previously on few occasions. I have had this rather a good sized pillow cover completed for a while already. Now I finally got around to finish it. I probably went through several closing possibilities from simple ribbons to huge decorative buttons etc. A plain zipper was one too. Which option won? I will keep you in suspense for a while longer.

Face-up time

In winter time I usually don’t make too many face-ups because of the light and weather difficulties in this Northern country. However, some occasional exceptions may occur and this appears to be one of those.

When you have the inspiration you should make the most of it. So the Fairyland MNF 2014 Halloween head I have had rolling around my closet for a good while now got a face-up. Theme was wintary with snowflakes and tiny decorative details over her other eye. There are also some black spirals on the other side of her head but I realized this picture does not show them… Fortunately there are other shots to complement. As nobody seemed to be willing to adopt the little one with her blank face I hope she will have better chances now. Take a look at Den of Angels.
